Bulkheads

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done an update. Here’s what I’ve been upto. Varnish, varnish, oil and more varnish this is on all the spars, oars and bits attached to these items, nothing that exciting to show so I’ll spare you all that and revisit that stuff towards the end of the project.

Eventually I packed all that away and got back to actually making bits that will make a hull!

Off to the Plystore for the rest of my bulkhead ply and all the planking ply.

I didn’t think very hard about how much and how heavy all this ply was going to be and started to shit myself as the forklift lowered the load onto my roof racks! The suspension sank quiet a bit and there were a few creaks and groans from the roof racks. Somehow the car, the roof racks and my load of ply made it home safely!

Using my MDF templates I drew up months ago I layed out all the bulkheads and cut them up with my jigsaw. Any edges that were a bit wonky I straightened up with a straight edge and my pattern cutting router bit. I then cut out and stuck on any underfloor supports and battens.

As usual I’m still being creative with my use of space (the office again). This time the boardroom became the PLY cutting centre lucky no meetings that week!!

The lack of space is now wearing very thin and I hope to move everything to the Wooden Boat Centre in the next few weeks. Things should then really get interesting as I’ll finally get to put the hull together!

In the meantime I’m going to epoxy coat all the bulkheads, make patterns for all the planking and prepare the building jig.
